1. Larry Page

Education: Page was a Honors student at the university of Michigan and a gained bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. He graduated in computer science at Stanford University finding connections on sites on the World Wide Web. He worked with Sergey Brin (also comp sci graduate). Master’s degrees.

Major Academic Events: Larry Page won the 2004-American Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate Award (Chicago, Illinois).

Contributions to Computer Science: He created the search engine “Google.com” (1997), a way for user’s to find what they were looking for without the having to sort through irrelevant sites. Also, he connected the internet to the world wide web. “PageRank” – webs ranks based on the numbers of links leading to them. Page wrote “Dynamic Data Mining” and “The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine” with Brin. Their mission: “to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”. 2000-ads based on searches – increased values of an ad space.

2. Alan Turing

Birth: June 23, 1912

Death: June 7, 1954

Education: In 1931, Turing studied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge.

Major Academic Events: He was elected at King's College to a fellowship with his research in probability.

Contributions to Computer Science: Turing was known for decoding the encryption of German Enigma Machines and creating the Turing Test.

3. Vinton G. Cerf

Birth: June 23, 1943

Death: N/A

Education: Vinton attended Stanford University and earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He then attended UCLA earning his master's and doctorate in computer science.

Major Academic Events: Cerf won the AM Turning Award along with Robert Kahn.

Contributions to Computer Science: He was known as the father of the internet for his invention of the TCP/IP. Cofounded the internet society (ISOC) and served as the president of ICANN.
